Ajwa dates from Al Madinah Al Munawwarah, dark and matte with a fine-grained, almost dry texture that sets them apart from softer varieties. The flavour is restrained rather than sugary — earthy, faintly of raisin and dried fig, with none of the syrupy finish of Medjool. Seven dates to a vacuum pack, the traditional count.
